18 year old female and I have pain in my hip muscles from time to time?My mom thinks it might be due to flat feet or something to do with how I walk. It's usually in my right hip but occurs in my left as well. It's been happening to me occasionally (I don't really have an average of how often, it's random) for the past 4 years or so.
It's definitely a pain in the muscle and not in the joint or bone.
Is this normal, is this something I should worry about, and does anyone have an idea as to why this happens?

sounds like your IT band. this happened to me recently. its usually in runners and bikers, but can be cause by normal stuff too. mine was caused by running. it can also be caused by your shoes. but your IT band runs from your hip to the side of your knee. starts out in the hip usually and eventually if you let it go long enough, the pain will spread all the way down to your knee and everywhere in between. not fun. i thought it was just my hip at first. you need to go see your doctor and they will tell you what you can do for it. usually all you need to do is stretching and stuff. mine got really bad to the point where i couldnt walk, much less run. i went to the doctor at a bone and joint clinic and what they did is they x-rayed it (to rule out stress fractures) and then moved it around to figure out where it was hurting exactly. he told me i had to stay out of running for atleast 3 weeks and then slowly gradually work back up, starting out only running on flat surfaces, like treadmills and tracks (instead of my usual hilly uneven outdoor running). i also am doing physical therapy for it. they do tissue treatments there and work any knots out and stretch it and treat the problem there. its fun and it helps. but definitly get it checked out because it will only get worse if you dont do anything about it. trust me, i tried!
Hope this helps!
God bless-livie
