Mysterious hip pain on one side, causes a limp, what could it be?I started working at Walmart about 6 weeks ago as a cashier; it's a job where you don't get to sit down a lot and you hardly move from your register while you're bagging. Since then, I've noticed that, after a long shift, my right hip (lower, right where the leg meets the joint) is very stiff and sore (a dull pain when I'm sitting), and it hurts much more (sharp pain) when I walk or try to stretch it (it pops loudly if I bend forward on it or move it far from a standing position, but generally feels a bit better after).

I'm almost sure it's from work; the longer it has been since my last shift, the better it feels (though it's ALWAYS sore now and pops a lot, much more than the left side). During work or after, it causes a bad limp (from the pain itself and from a general decrease in motion-range...i.e., forcibly ignoring the pain doesn't prevent the limp).

I'd like to know specifically what is going on, and also what I can do to prevent this from continuing (or at least lessen the pain/decrease in motion). Stretching doesn't seem to be helping, but perhaps I'm just in need of the right kind. If it helps, I also have knee problems (anterior knee pain, not sport-related), which I understand may be a result of or may cause minor hip issues. Putting my foot up on a short ledge (just above my ankle) is possible during work; could this help or would it make things worse? Or should I just try to lean on my left side as much as I can?

invest in better shoes & support socks, request an ergonomic mat for the floor where you stand, do yoga, swim, see a chiropractor, get a massage, and take breaks at work so that you can stretch & move.
