Stabbing Pain in the Hip, Plus Knee Pain?So I'm a 15 year old girl and I get these sharp stabbing pains in my hip, a while ago I felt it once but nothing ever happened. Then the stabbing pain started happening more often, now my hip hurts almost all the time. Well, I shouldn't say all the time because it's only been too days of it hurting constantly. For the past two days my right hip has just been throbbing, it's usually just a dull and achy pain but it I bend down it hurts horribly. It literally feels like something is stabbing my hip from inside my body. I also get pain in the joint of my hip that is in the front, I think it's called the groin. It used to only happen on my left leg, but a couple times it happened to the right. It's like, I will be shaving my legs and my leg will be upwards but when I'm done and I'm bring it down a sharp stabbing pain will suddenly happen. Making it hard to put down, it feels very stiff when it happens and makes me limp. I don't always walk with a limp, only if this happens. Or when my knees begin to hurt, it's like they just start hurting more and more. They feel like they need to be popped or they're stiff or something. Same deal, like it I straighten my leg out sometimes my knees will hurt. I've been hesitant to tell anyone because I don't want to make it a big deal, but I'm afraid to let it go. I thought it could be perthes disease, but even though teenagers can get it. It is very rare and very unlikely, plus I only limp when the pain begins not all the time.
What does this sound like? Does it sound serious or just growing pains?
By the way I haven't gotten hurt or sprained anything, so that's not it.

Thanks

Donna
Hi

At 15 years old it would be extremely unlikely to be perthes disease, as this generally affects children between the ages of 2 and 13 years old.

However, you do need to get this seen to, as there are a number of other things it could be and a doctor is the best person to deal with this. It could be something quite straightforward the goes away all on its own, or a little physiotherapy might help, so its worth getting it checked out properly.

Limping when the pain begins is a totally normal body reaction to what is happening too by the way.

Hope this helps and hope that you get a simple answer to this soon.
