Triathlete: upper anterior knee pain?


Triathlete: upper anterior knee pain?I have pains in my left knee, not so much in my right knee. The pain is in the upper anterior part of the knee and sometimes medial.

I train for triathlon nearly everyday, but its cross-training mostly so no one activity really dominates. I also use the rowing ergometer realitively frequently.

I find that when I wake up in the morning the pain is most severe. As the day progresses (it stretches?) the pain dissipates. When I first start exercising the pain is present (especially on high impact sports like running), but also begins to dissipate. Immediately after exercise I feel the least, pain, but the mornings after intense exercise I usually feel it the most.

I'm wondering if this is from a tendon? If so which one? I'm also wondering if its just a fatigued muscle and that I should turn down the intensity but don't NEED to stop exercising. I've had pains in my hip flexors, but I trained through them and they went away (although it took awhile) no problem.

Thought I should add that I'm 19 years old, and have been training at this intensity for around two years. Eat a balanced diet.
My knees have also been popping a lot lately too.
