What could be the cause of the sharp pain on my left side of abdomen?

What could be the cause of the sharp pain on my left side of abdomen?I have some trouble passing stool on a regular basis. Its been days since I last passed, and I was getting worried. So I took a women's laxative for the first time at 1am and went to bed. I woke up at 3am with a really sharp pain on my left side of abdomen ... like right on top of my hip section. The pain didn't go away 'till 5-6am... but at 4-5am, I was in the bathroom with very heavy diarrhea. What could the pain mean? I've never really had it before, besides the pain I get from when I bloat which is often then I'd like, but that doesn't happen on just one section.

My best guess is that it is a cramping effect from the laxatives you took.

Er, you might want your appendix checked if its a very sharp pain.

next time you take a laxative, make sure that you drink plenty of water. i bet you that's what is wrong

The best thing you can do is see a doctor. We can all come up with tons of stuff to say to you, but only a qualified doctor will be able to make a proper diagnosis.

Go see your primary care physician. It doesn't sound like its from the laxatives you took. It could be your appendix, gallbladder, or an ovarian cyst. Your doctor can do a blood count and see if anything is off but if they pain gets worse before you can get into your doctor... go to the ER. If pain worsens... it is obviously a sign that things inside your body are getting worse. And if you are having trouble passing a stool.... I dont want to scare you but I would go the ER soon. There are so many medical things it could be. Like I said.. I don't want to scare you but... it took doctors 2 years to figure out that i have a syndrome that I have had since I was 4 and i am 14. Like I said... it could be appendix, ovarian cyst, or it could be a infection or disease in one of those. Its hard to tell when we are communicating on-line but I have my cousin who is a surgeon sitting right next to me and he said that if you can hold off... get an appt. first thing tomorrow with your primary care physician but... if the pain worsens overnight... go to the ER asap.
