Hip pain: 23 year old female distance runner with hip pain?

23 year old female distance runner with hip pain?As the title states, I am a 23 year old female distance runner and over the past year I've started to really suffer from hip pain. Typically what happens while I'm running is my left hip will get a stabbing pain and it will feel like it catches a little. When I do sit ups, leg lifts, or anything that deals with a lot of hip movement, it will make loud popping noises. It is loud enough that others around me can hear it (a little embarrassing). I can no longer sit cross legged, nor can I sit for long periods of time (i.e. : the 12 hour car ride I made the other day). I know I should probably go see a doctor but in my profession going to the doctor makes you look weak and I am trying to avoid that at this point.

Going to a doctor is not weak but sensible no matter what profession you are in. You may save yourself permanent damage by doing so now. Sometimes if you wait there is no back tracking. You need a professional consultation and x-rays. You want to take a preventive approach, not end up being sorry.
