I pulled my right hip from running and am limping now, what kind of exercise can I do?Okay, last Tuesday I was running on the treadmill (since its really cold and I'm waiting for Spring to go back outside) and I was about 35 minutes into my run. I had just finished doing 30 minutes of my usual routine that includes intense training with sprints and hill work and the last 30 minutes I just do a steady flat run for fat burning. Well, at about the 35 minute mark, a sharp shooting pain went through my right hip. It continued and almost made finishing my run unbearable. It eased a bit so I kept going and then shot through my hip again at about 50 minutes. I was able to finish my run but the pain remained. Well, I'm used to sore muscles and thought maybe I had just pushed it a little harder than usual and went ahead and did weights the next day and ran again that Friday. During the Friday run, my hip was sore and was more annoying than anything, but I was able to finish.
Well, I tried to go to the gym and run Saturday and didn't make it 10 seconds before I could tell that running was not an option. So, I got off and went home. Then I took Bodypump Monday (which is a weight lifting class) and was fine. My hip was a little sore but not too bad. Well......I tried to run that Weds on the treadmill and I only made it 12 minutes. The pain got progressively worse the longer I ran until it became unbearable and I had to stop. Now, mind you, I got up at 4:15am and was on the treadmill at 5am to run. So......I don't just quit on a whim. It just hurts THAT much!!!
Its been almost 2 weeks since I hurt myself and I took 3 full days off and tried to run yesterday outside for the first time in a few months (been doing the treadmill since its been so cold). It was a really nice day for running and I thought if I kept my speed slow and steady that I could do it........well.....not so much! The first 10 minutes I felt great!! My hip didn't hurt at all!! Then I started to feel it and it was more annoying than anything and I chose to ignore it and push further. I thought if I could keep my feet going I would be fine....well....I made it halfway through my run...probably 3 or 4 miles and the pain became unbearable. Please understand that I don't stop to walk unless I can't breathe or I'm in a lot of pain!!! It hurt so bad I was limping by the time I stopped. I walked for a bit and then tried to run again and had to stop 10 feet later....and started and stopped a few times before I gave up. I had to limp to a friends house and call my husband to come and get me. I think I've really hurt myself this time!!!
So, I'm concerned and I know now that I just can't run for a while. That is pretty apparent because I can't even walk straight at this point. Going up stairs is almost impossible and I walk with a limp right now because of trying to run yesterday. So, what kind of exercise can I do?? I thought about bodypump or cycle but everything incorporates your hips. What do I do???!!!!
