Pain in hip flexors during long runs - what to do less than month before marathon? My first marathon is in less than 4 weeks and my hip flexors started to bother me recently. It all began with my 24 miles long training run (my first time ever doing this distance) when my hips started to hurt really bad around mile 9. I finished the run but then when I did another long run the next week, I had to walk a lot of my 20 miler because I was in so much pain. This Sunday I did 14 miles but had to stop at mile 8 and strech to ease my pain. It went away but came back during my last mile. (I started training in December and followed my training plan carefully.)
I googled my injury and figured out it is my hip flexors that bother me. I know I have to strenghten my hip flexors and hamstrings and back and abs and just all core in general but my marathon is soon approaching!
I am so frustrated! I am worried I won't be able to finish the marathon. I wish I did not run the 24 miler because it did something to my hips. Any advice what to do in such a short amount of time to get rid of this pain? Will taper help any? Thank you for trying to help me!
To add, this pain only comes during my long runs - anything shorter than 7 miles does not bother me at all.

Get in a pool and run in deep water, do not touch the bottom.
You can do this several times each week, and should help your problems.
With 4 weeks to go you should not taper now, you can do your long runs in the water to maintain your cardio, and still do the shorter days since they don't hurt your hips.
