can a knee injury cause hip and back pain?I twisted my knee pretty good in the summer time and i continued to workout and run. A couple months down the road I've been getting some hip and lower back pain. Doctor told me it was a pinched nerve and gave me some meds but its just getting worse. I thought maybe the knee problem threw my hip or back out of alignment and maybe a trip to the chiropractor would fix it???

I've had knee problems now for ten or more years and I know that it's effected my back and hips. The older we get the worse it gets.

Here's the skinny: Any joint injury causes you to reflexively "baby" that joint, or try to be easy on it. A knee injury would cause you to unconsciously change your stride or gait. That change would rearrange the way your ankle, hip, and lower back all move around the bad knee. If those changes are outside the normal movement ranges of those joints, then pain will definitely arise from the new stride. A pinched nerve would have affected you immediately when you strained your knee, or shortly thereafter, and the pain would have had no buildup; it would have been instantaneous.
Your hip/back are probably out of alignment due to the improper stride you are taking due to the initial knee pain. If you have been to a chiropractor before, then you might invest in another trip. Otherwise, I would suggest a second opinion from a bone and joint specialist.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor, but I do play one on television. (Just joking... I always wanted to say that!)

Because of the knee injury, you might not be walking correctly, favoring the knee side. Thereby putting excessive work on the back and hip. If this is the case, a chiropractor wouldn't help. You need to visit an 'orthopedist. They are the professionals when it comes to joints & bone & hip & back problems. Their tests are specialized for each problem. Good Luck.

Have your doctor refer you to a physical therapist or a chiropractor if you prefer. They both treat problems like this and should be able to help you. Back problems are very common. It is possible that your knee problem may have lead to the back and hip problem, but there are so MANY other things that could have caused your symptoms.
The problem with treating nerve problems with medicine only is that you are not addressing the cause. Someone needs to figure out what is causing your pain. Nerve pain can come on suddenly or gradually. If its a pinched nerve my question would be where is the nerve getting pinched. By a disc, between the bones in the back, between the hip muscles. Maybe its not even pinched just overstretched. You need a thorough exam and hands on treatment by a professional.
Sounds like you need more than just meds.
Good luck, hope this helps
