can Sciatica cause you to lose movement in your hip/leg if agitated for a long period of time?

can Sciatica cause you to lose movement in your hip/leg if agitated for a long period of time?Hi :)

I am wondering if sciatica can cause you to lose movement in your hip/leg if agitated for a long period of time if you have agitated that nerve?

THIS IS A LONG STORY BUT IT GIVES YOU BACKGROUND FOR THE QUESTION :)
I am fairly sure I have pregnancy Sciatica and although mild this pregnancy (pain mainly at night only really the dull numb pain during the day) My last pregnancy it was awful. I never actually spoke about it to my midwife last pregnancy because i didn't realise it could be anything and just thought the pain etc was a normal pregnancy thing & because it was my first I felt like I was being annoying if I asked many questions. However this time around I know it isn't normal & am going to talk about it to my midwife tomorrow.

With my first pregnancy 3 years ago I had awful lower back, bum & thigh pain, my feet were constantly numb and cramping in my calves happened a lot. If I was laying in a certain position it would get agonsing and I would have to move where it would take a while to go away (but would settle down slighty)

When I was in labour with my daughter it was epic (3 days in proper labour, 3 min apart contractions) & I had an epidural (all went fine) I couldn't feel a thing. I was lying on my back for at least 24 hours in the same position until I was taken into theatre and my legs were put in stirrups. I couldn't feel anything while any of this was happening...
Once I had my daughter I was taken to my room and the epidural eventually wore off. I noticed the next morning that I couldn't raise my leg laterally or forwards at all, It was like my leg was paralysed, however I could feel my skin and could still walk but when it came to putting my leg forwards and raising it laterally it was like my brain couldn't control the movement. It took 3 months before I could raise and function my leg correctly. I was taking pain killers in the hospital and for up to 2 weeks after the birth so I wasn't feeling pain associated with this non movement thing.

It wasn't the epidural that caused the issue & my doctor said it was peripheral nerve damage... now I never told her about the pains associated with the pregnancy and I never put two and two together. I am wondering if I had Sciatica and because I was being moved around and not able to feel my body being in pain (possibly from being in an awkward position)
while I had the epidural could it have been irritated and that's why I wasn't able to move my leg for so long? because I know that if I was in bed and started to get awful pain it would get worse and worse until I moved. If I couldn't feel the pain it is possible that my body was in an awkward position for a long period of time without me knowing (because pain would have been the only way I did know and it was blocked).

My doctor and midwife have never worked out why I had nerve damage but I never told them about the pain throughout my pregnancy because I didn't associate the two together until only last night when I was sitting in pain and went to get up and my leg wouldn't raise latterly that easily.

I know this could be a completely silly theory.. and it is also silly I didn't tell them about the pain but what do you think Can Sciatica cause you to lose certain leg functions?

I am going to talk to my midwife tomorrow about it and ask her what she thinks but would love to know what you think and if you know if it can cause you to lose leg movements.

Thank you for reading.

When you have back pain you have pinched muscles there. When the muscles are pinched in the lower back they can press on the nerves going to your legs and cause pains to be felt through any of your leg parts, including your thighs. If the sciatica is pressed on then you get the pain from it as well. Pressure on the nerves is going to cause any muscle, after a while, to feel that it is just going to go to sleep on you. You have to release the muscles in your back to get rid of these pains and problems or you will continue to have them. Here's how to release your back muscles to get rid of the pain:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
for best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
