Hip Labral Tear Question -- Should a 19 year old get it?I am a 19 year old student athlete who tore his right hip labrum in October of last year.
It was a very small tear, and it only hurts and clicks when I lower my right leg very slowly. Aside from that, I can run and jog just fine.
Do the conditions of my injury require hip arthroscopy? The clicking is annoying to hear, and the little pain that occurs is annoying too, but is this necessary for surgery?
Also, if I don't get the surgery, could this tear worsen as I get older? Or can it heal on its own?

I'm not an orthopedic surgeon but I can guide you on the basics.
General everyday light exercise "shouldn't" cause further injury, however since you have a tear it is always possible to increase the tear and make it larger. That region of your hip is weakened and will be more susceptible to injury.
Arthroscopy would allow the surgeon to repair the tear and since it is small it should be easily repairable with minimal recovery time. I generally recommend MY patients (speak with your PERSONAL health care provider) to go ahead and seek the advice of a quality ortho doc and proceed with the procedure.
