Hip pain: How can I find out what's causing my leg, back and hip pain?

How can I find out what's causing my leg, back and hip pain?my symptoms are: pain and stiffness in hip, shooting pain down back of thigh, sharp pains in calf, pain in lower back, soreness at bottom of spine. The pain is constant. I have aching in both legs quite often and feel like I'm getting flu. Im tired all the time and have gained A LOT of weight in the past 6 months from the lack of activity from the pain. I get flushed and hot but no temp. It's not the flu. I have been doing this for weeks and weeks. Sometimes, my left arm gets a weird sensation. I also have pain in my elbows off and on. I went to general doc.he did nothing but offer for me to try Cymbalta without finding out what it was. He did a blood test on my thyroid and b12. both fine.My white blood count was a little high.Sent me for blood flow test in legs, left leg has decreased blood flow but that one does not bother me as much. he didn't seem concerned. I went to Orthopedic doc, he did xrays on lower back and hip. He said he didn't see anything except my spine was curved in some and one hip had and extra "shelf" which I know it does and he seemed to not care. Put me on a high dose of a anti-inflammatory med. It will take a while to work and its kinda dangerous. I don't care for pain meds. I have to work and take care of my family so I can't be drugged up! It's to the point where Im gonna have to find out what tests I need and tell a doctor to do them! They don't seem to know. I don't have time, money or the energy to go from doc to doc with no relief or knowledge of what is going on. Please tell me what to do?
You are right but I have got to get this pain taken care of before I can do that. I have an office job, sit all day. Exhausted constantly. I know my weight is not helping but when there's no energy and constant pain, what then?

You won't like this: You must accept that losing weight, lack of physical activity, and the will to do something about it are your major problems. Get your priorities straight: you said you need to support your family, etc. You are no good to yourself or anyone if you don't help yourself.

..Smokey,Your doctor needs to send you for an MRI,I had some of the same symptoms in 2004,after my MRI I was diagnosed with Degenerative spinal disorder, nerve damage in my left leg, carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists. I had to take and still do pain medications. The older that I get the worse the pain. So you will have to choose to be pain free or take meds,if taken as prescribed you should be fine. Hope this has helped and good luck.

It could be anything, nerve problem, muscle problem, kidneys or a number of other things...It is impossible to answer your question without knowing what the actual problem is. Ask your Doctor for a referral for a CT or MRI scan.
The wrong type of treatment or exercises can do more damage than good and you need to have your back properly diagnosed prior to ANY treatment.
Again you do need to have a CT / MRI scan or such done before allowing ANYONE to touch your back.

Get a professional opinion from the radiologist doing the scan in his report to your doctor and then go from there

OK First- Beacon has it all wrong. Your doctor will almost NEVER have an MRI/CT done without trying conservative measures first. Doctors will always prescribe ibuprofin for 2 weeks before even thinking about an MRI/CT (unless in a traumatic scenario). Beacon puts the exact same thing for every response (if you don't believe me look up his answers).

However, an impingement or misalignment in your lower back (lumbar spine) can cause similar symptoms. The fact that they have not found anything on X-ray points to this. Now, your weight can also have an impact on it. In addition your water intake can play a huge roll also. You should be drinking 1 Liter of water for every 50 lbs of body weight. Also your water intake can affect the pain you are having.

I would recommend that you see a chiropractor. They can help realign your spine and take some pressure off the muscles and nerves. They can also help restore the blood flow by correcting what is slowing the blood flow. Over 90% of the time conservative care like chiropractic will help without ever needing a CT or MRI scan. The other 10% will see no response to conservative treatment. At this time, you would get an MRI/CT- not before.

I really wish you the best

I really wish you the best. Please see a chiropractor in your area.
