My x-rays showed nothing but, what could i have done to my back?I stepped off the stairs wrong about 3 months ago, and felt a sharp pain in my lower back. after heat and ice it went away. about a month ago it happened again, but the pain hasn't left. I have a dull constant ache in my lower back, then if i move to quick or bend or step funny i get a 10 second sharp pain then it goes away. Last night i was lying on my left side, but the pressure/pain in my spine was there and my right hip area felt as if i was lying to long on it. there was alot of "pressure" feeling in my right hip.
Xrays today said my spine looked fine, The MA at the dr office said oh well amy (nurse prac) doesn't know what to tell you. you image shows nothing. Keep icing it and heat.
When she did my exam she tapped on my feet which didn't hurt but i could feel it. she had me bend my legs and it didn't recreate the pain. but when she checked my reflexes i didn't have any in either leg. What could be the problem?

You probably have nerve damage, or your brain isn't sending / receiving signals correctly.

wow, you need a new doctor. You could very well have slipped, bulging or ruptured disk. They all need an MRI to be detected.
I cannot even think as to why they would not send you for an MRI
when you are having pain and some numbness

OK first, this sounds like a classic case of misaligned joints ( which do not show up on X-ray). I have seen patients with similar symptoms as yours.
You really need to find a chiropractor in your area. They specialize in conditions like this. In the event that it is a problem with the disc, the chiropractor will refer you out to a specialist or to get an MRI. However, based upon your method of injury, I would say the chance of that is less than 10%. It is usually very hard to have a disc problem just by stepping off a stair wrong. however it is very easy to create a misalignment. The chiropractor should be able to get you realigned and you should see some relief of pain.
However, If you do not see some improvement within 2 weeks, make sure you tell the chiropractor that you are not feeling any better.
I wish you the best
