Can implantation of titanium pins in hip create complications down the road?My 77-year old mom had hip surgery in which 3 titanium pins were inserted to keep her bone attached to the hip ball joint. She has been recovering fine but suddenly she is experiencing pain in her hip when walking. What are the possible complications from this type of surgery during the recovery period?

She needs to see her surgeon right away for x-rays. She shouldn't be having acute pain like that after recovering well from joint surgery. One of the pins is not in the right place, the hip has somehow become displaced, she has an infection, or she is experiencing a reaction to the titanium. If the joint and fixation pins are in the right places, she needs to be evaluated for infection or allergy.
