Mirena and hip joint pain?

Mirena and hip joint pain?I had the Mirena IUD inserted in January,2009 and along with common side effects (headaches, weight gain, constant discharge, sore breasts) within the past month I have been experiencing joint pain in my hips that I CAN'T STAND any longer. I was told some women have a very low tolerance to the hormone (apparently that's me) while others have no problems with it at all. I also want to mention when I was on the pill I experienced much of the same symptoms, except for the hip pain. I am 45 years old and I literally feel like an 80 year old woman most mornings and can't lift anything heavy without crying out in pain. It gets better during the day, but if I sit on anything other than a hard chair, I can't stand up without feeling like my hip is popping out of joint. It is NOT arthritis and it is NOT in my head, so don't bother responding if this is what you are going to say - again - this did not start until about 6 months after Mirena was inserted and started suddenly with no injuries or anything being done out of the ordinary. I went to the doctor about it and was told all is NORMAL - that she had no answer for me. Of course I was also informed that this isn't a normal side effect of Mirena, yet there are literally hundreds of posts on the net from other women experiencing the same issue. My question is for Mirena users - have you experienced joint pain (particularly in the hip) that did NOT appear until after the Mirena was placed, and if so did anything help other than having the Mirena removed? I am "this close" to having it removed and want some honest feedback. Thanks in advance!
Cecili - thanks for your response! The doctor said she couldn't find anything abnormal in relation to my joint pain, that's why I am thinking it's the hormones in the Mirena. Thinking back it does remind me of when I was pregnant in the last days and everything ached due to the weight of the baby - almost like my hips are preparing for a birth that isn't coming! It has got to be the pregnancy-hormone (whether real or synthetic) that is causing these symptoms. I really want to hear from more people who have these problems - I'm really upset this wasn't listed on the literature, yet I see so many women complaining of it!
I bit the bullet and had it removed today - I decided the benefits were not outweighing the side effects and it just wasn't worth the pain I am experiencing just to have lighter periods.

You answered one of my questions:)

I, too, have experienced joint pain. Mostly from my pregnancy which was tendinitis, but more recently, knees, elbows and wrists. I visited my doctor and he gave me a cortisone injection which did work. I still have joint pain now and again, but induced from exercise.
There are several symptoms I have, presumably from the mirena, but nothing I can't live with. Your pain sounds like mine which was diagnosed as bursitis which is an inflammation of the bursa sac that lubricated the joints. I have suffered from this since I was a teenager. I guess your best bet is to visit your doctor.

BTW, thanks for you answer:)
