Question for those who have had surgery?

Question for those who have had surgery? While growing up, my hips are formed in the wrong socket. I also have Scoliosis, but it's stable. A few months ago after I turned 17, I started feeling pain in my right hip. I went to my Pediatric Orthopaedic doctor. I did some x-rays and my doctor referred me to a hip replacement specialist. I went to see the specialist docotor yesterday. He told me my right hip isn't formed in the correct socket, its higher than where it's supposed to be. He also told me i need surgery when school is quiet. Most likely after I graduate high school next summer. Next month, I'm going to be a senior. It'll take at least 6 weeks to recover. He said no more Basketball (my fav sport) and other olympics/ heavy sports after surgery. That sucks. I want to learn to play an acoustic guitar. Will I be able to after I recover from surgery? Is it to heavy? How about going on rides at Disney, Universal, Six Flags, Great America parks, etc parks after I recover? I'm freaked out scared.
******* I'm only 17 years old

I don't know about the guitar, but they're pretty light, so I'm guessing that once you can sit up comfortably, you can play until your fingers are blistered.

My sister had a hip replacement and she can go on rides just fine. You're young enough that your recovery should be both fast and complete.

Make sure you talk to your doctor or physical therapist about athletic activities that are safe for you after the hip replacement recovery. You don't want to do nothing.

You should be able to get back to very close to normal since you're young. You should also work with a physical therapist after the surgery to enhance your healing process. Acoustic guitars are really light and I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to learn to play post surgery. Surgery is scary but the doctors know what their doing. You'll probably be able to do 90% of what you used once you healed. Start now with eating healthy and light exercise. The better condition you are in prior to surgery the easier the recovery is. Good luck with everything!

You would be able to learn guitar after you strengthen back up (about 6-8 months), but as far as rides; probably not. I've had 2 knee surgeries and am going to have a third in a month and I was told I'm never allowed to ride rides; but you can ask your surgeon and he will tell you for sure. Good luck.
