Sacroiliac joint pain when walking - what do I do?

Sacroiliac joint pain when walking - what do I do?I have a ruptured disk between L5-S1, and I've noticed that when I walk to get exercise, I start having some really tremendous pain in my left sacroiliac joint. It feels like someone is sticking an ice pick in one little spot in my lower back, and my muscles start tensing up. If I keep walking, I start getting pain in the front of my left thigh, where it joins my hip. When this happens, am I supposed to keep walking until it works itself out, or is that a sign that I should stop walking and go put ice/heat on it? I'm really confused about this. I know I need exercise, but I don't want to hurt myself even worse.

go to your doctor... see what they say.

Many years ago, the phrase, "no pain, no gain" was quite popular among athletes. I didn't believe it then, and I don't believe it now.

Pain is the body's message of warning to back off on whatever it is you are doing. From your description, I don't know how it is even possible for you to keep going. Go take care of the pain. Find a different form of exercise that won't put you into this kind of confusion and will provide similar benefits.

-sounds like surgery is in the future for you.

Having a ruptured disc says you have tight muscles in your back. Tight muscles in your back can press onto the nerves going to your legs to make them go into pain and that is the pain you keep feeling. To get rid of that muscle pain and the sciatica pain you have to free up the back muscles and here's how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Should look into Prolotherapy as a treatment before any kind of surgery.
