Severe hip pain in pregnancy, incl. Tylenol Arthritis vs. Percocet?

Severe hip pain in pregnancy, incl. Tylenol Arthritis vs. Percocet?I am 21 (TODAY!!! YAY!!!) and 21 weeks pregnant. I started having right-side hip pains in January 08; found out I was pregnant Feb 08. Of course the hip pain has gotten worse. I have had a couple of times previous to this week where I could barely walk. This past week however, I have had 3-4 times in 7 days where I could barely walk. Wednesday, I had an appointment with a neurologist to discuss treatment and he said physical therapy. If I needed pain meds, he said he would prescribe Percocet for me. Well, yesterday a.m. I woke up to go to my last day of work (b/c of the pain and PT) with pain in BOTH hips and was on the verge of crying until I left (only worked 1/2 a day). I got the Percocet prescr., took one and waited. An hour later I HAD THE WORST PAIN IN MY LIFE and cried for 20 mins. I will not take them anymore esp. b/c they are Cat. 3 in preg. The nurse said nothing with "arthritis" in it, but I have Tylenol Artyhritis pills. I have nothing else other than to take that....
or take pain that I really cannot deal with. And on my b-day! Help!

just me
You could possible have a pinched nerve with your hips starting to get a little out of alignment due to the pregnancy.
one exercise to do would be to stand on a step and let the other leg hang down over the side, stretching the leg from the hip.... do that a few times on each side a few times a day... then, lay on your back and bring one knee up and lay it over your body to the floor onthe opposite side and stretch out the hip muscle...

Find a yoga instructor or tv lessons or a book. you will not need meds if you work it out and relax it....

Tell your doc the Percocet seems to be making your pain worse.

Pain doesn't care about birthdays. It comes when it is ready. You didn't say if you ever had hip pain before you were pregnant? That would help to know. You didn't say if you had ever fallen on that hip when you were younger- bicycle or horse riding? The weight of pregnancy would aggravate the old injury.
Is there anything you do just before the pain starts? Sleeping ? too much walking? sitting too long? What happens if you get in a hot hot bath? How about a bath filled with ice? You have to experiment. Everyone's body is different.
There is often a "rebound" effect from pain pills. YOu feel better for a while then worse when they wear off. It is almost a blessing that they don't work for you.
What happens if you exercise as soon as you feel the first "twinge" of pain? Can you walk with crutches and "carry" that leg? You may need more exercise than you are getting and that makes the pain worse. Do you have crutches? If not , a neighbor will have some- don't buy them.
At 21 you wouldn't normally have arthritis unless it runs in your family. Does it?
I hope you have a happy, healthy baby and your hip pain ends when you stop carrying around another human being. keep this in mind when you think about future pregnancies. Remember how much it hurt. You will forget in a few years.
