Hip Labral Tear? Should I have surgery?

Hip Labral Tear? Should I have surgery?I've been diagnosed with a hip labral tear and m a cross country runner. Currently, I can run through the pain, though it bothers me through the day after my run. THe next cross country seasons is very important to me, and I'd like to make it there, but if I keep running on my tear, will it get worse? Would I be better off having surgery now, so I can run well in the fall? And if anyone has had the surgery, how long was it until you could run again?

Sorry to hear about your injury. I had a teammate go through a relatively minor arthroscopic procedure for a labral tear years ago. It was better than two months before she was well enough to begin running.

From what I understand, it can and will get worse. Everyone is different, and it totally depends upon the extent of the damage.

I attached an article that gives some practical experiences from different forums.

Honestly, I think only an orthopedic surgeon should help you make an informed decision.

What I would suggest if you have not talked to a Dr.Ask a sports trainer. There is one at this site who works with injuries and might be able to answer your question.
