Hip pain, can't find cause?I've had hip pain in the side-rear (kind of undefinable- toward the back of the side) for several months now, unrelated to an injury. The pain is very deep and worsens with any change of hip angle (particularly when it involves pushing- e.g. going up stairs, standing up). It is extremely painful to turn my knee out, and the hip makes a "clunking" sound when I do so. It's not a clicking or popping, but this weird kind of resounding thunk that sounds nearly as unpleasant as it feels.
Initially, the doctor suggested some issues with IT Band or glute weakness/tightness, but no amount of stretching/conditioning seems to help. The very process of stretching is extremely painful (any real angling of the joint is), but in spite of pushing through it, there were no positive results.
I then had an MRI (this weekend) without contrast for the sole purpose of ruling out stress fractures (young, female, history of anorexia, it was a valid possibility)- no fractures. There is inflammation on what people traditionally think of as the "hip bone" (in the front) on the side of the hip pain, but that doesn't really hurt any more than a bruise, and seems to be unrelated to the pain in back. I have NO surface tenderness where it hurts in back.
I don't know enough about the hip joint to have any idea what other possibilities to suggest to my doctor are, but this needs to stop- I want to run again! Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Please help, and thank you in advance!
I forgot to add stats, in case they matter:
I'm 21, 5'5", 119lbs.

could very well be in all reality a knee or back injury. think of your body as a straight line of gears. if one moves it impacts the other ones above an below. many times hip pain is a result of a knee injury such as if u are walking differently to compensate or something. in alot of cases it is not actually what hurts that is broken. try getting a knee CT or a lumber MRI to rule that out. other than that it could be a siatic nerve (or another nerve pinch) acting up, depending on your age. hope this helps.
