i have a torn hip labrum, i have tried physical therapy 1st with little pain relief?now my ortho has advised a steriod injection.has this treatment in your experience had good long term results?I am 47 years old in in good health.
mistify
It's an unusual diagnosis that I've only seen a handful of times during the past 10 years. Some do respond to PT, I am not sure if I've seen someone who has had an intra-articular injection. The literature suggests that those who have surgery have about the same long term results as someone who did not have surgery. This suggests that there is no clear, definitive "best treatment." What is the ortho's reason against injection?
If you've given this problem at least a year and it still bothers you significantly, I would discuss arthroscopic repair of the labrum with a surgeon...however, this is not a surgery which is commonly done. You might have to do some significant searching before finding someone who has done this procedure with any regularity.
