For the last several days I have had a pain in left side of hip area. When I lie on my right side &?When I lie on my right side and try to strech my left leg straight up the pain is so intense it will throb even worse for hours. What could this be? I have done nothing to injure it that I know of. I thought it was my back but now that I see it's also affected with my left leg and hip I can't figure out what it is or what to do. Ice/Heat? Any ideas for relief?

It could be that you have a disc problem or a trapped nerve due to the same (sciatica) do NOT apply heat, because if it is a disc, the heat will cause the disc to expand even more, causing more pain. To test for lumbar disc problems, try this simple test, stand up straight or lie flat on your back and do a "straight leg lift" If you can do that without experiencing pain, it is unlikely to be a disc problem but, from what you have described it does sound like a lumbar disc lesion/slipped disc/herniated disc/prolapsed disc The very best thing though is to see your doctor and let the doctor perform this test.
