Hip and joint pain after standing for long periods of time?So I'm 21 years old, and I work a retail job that requires me to be on my feet for at least 8 or more hours at a time. It sucks because there is also heavy lifting involved at times, so by quittin' time I am WIPED out. Usually when I get home my lower body (especially my hips and knees) hurt, bad. I don't know if it's stiffness from standing forever, or maybe the shoes I'm wearing. What do you guys recommend to either ease the pain or prevent it?

Tight muscles in your lower back can press onto the nerves going to your legs to cause pains in your legs. Freeing up your back muscles will get rid of pains caused this way. There are other ways the pains can happen as well but this is a common one and it also eliminates the first real source of the pain for your legs. Here's how to free up your back muscles to get rid of the leg pains:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

My guess is that you over-arch your lower back and hyper extend or lockout your knees.
When standing rotate your hips to reduce the arch in your lower back and keep it that way.
Don't lock or hyper extend your knees. For more details read the article listed at Dr. Bookspan's site.
