Can my hip pain be from running on the treadmill?I'm a teenager. When I went to a gym out of town, I ran on a treadmill for a half hour for the first time. When I came home I ran on the treadmill again. The morning after I started to have really intense hip pain, mostly in my right hip. It would only hurt when I shifted my weight off of it. The pain started to go down, and then a week later I ran on the treadmill again and it hurt more, this time it was more apparent in both hips and hurt all the time, not just when I shifted my weight off of it. Could running on the treadmill and the pain be related? I think it could also be the theraband I use to make my foot stronger since I'm a dancer.

it is possible that the theraband is causing this but I doubt it. The problem with treadmills is that most of them either use a very thin sheet of wood or metal as the strike plate. There is very little shock absorption in either of them. The other question that must be asked is how old are your running shoes? If there are more than 300 miles on them it is time for new ones. I think what you are experiencing is coming from the gluteus medius and minimus. Try strengthening those groups to stop this problem. They are hip abductors but in running their job is to keep the head of the femur in the socket.
