I fell last month and have been having severe hip and knee pains. Help?

I fell last month and have been having severe hip and knee pains. Help?I am 19 year old female, and I fell last month on slippery snow. I fell on my hip and it was a little sore at first but nothing that horribly hurt. A week later I started getting shooting pains from my hip to my knee and its whenever I walk or run. I am very athletic and it gets very annoying when I need to stop or adjust my activity. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks guys!

Why avoid going to the doctor and getting an X- ray? If there is only muscle or ligament strain painkillers would be helpful. I found that only voltaren pharmacy strength capsules helped me cope with the pain of a badly sprained knee and it took about 5 weeks before the pain stopped.

I have been hurt many times in the past from work and back when I was a "Weight Lifter", so I know pain. But the biggest 'painful' mistake I made was not going to the doctor to find out what was wrong. Probably from too much Bravado.
If you have health insurance, there's NO reason why you shouldn't go to the Doc. If not, look up in your area to see where you can go for (charity care)/free clinic. Your still young, don't limit your future now with not getting checked out. I hope you feel better..

I would say go to the doctors, it sounds like you bruised the bone. Any coloration on your leg (black/blue). Also this is the first time i have heard of slippery snow. I am pretty sure that goes against snows physical form. Maybe it was ice? idk just throwing it out there. Anyways, I'd try to use the same stuff that planted yo ass. (ICE) or snow might work for this as well. If this doesn't help there are these people that train for 12 years to help people with problems like this, yes doctors : )

HI,

As a physical therapist I would highly suggest that if you fell and continue to have pain, see a doctor. Better to get things check out than to have an issue that gets worse. In the mean time, try applying ice to the painful joints, 10 minutes at a time a few times a day. Also avoid any aggravating activities.

Good luck.
