unidentified hip joint pain during activity?

unidentified hip joint pain during activity?Hi, I have had pain in my left hip joint, which I only feel when I bend my leg or my left leg is put into motion where the hip joint is used. This is an inner pain near the groin, so I am confident it is a hip joint issue. I first noticed this pain in 2007 on an elliptical machine. I recently noticed it again because I started exercising and used the same machine. Therefore, this leads me to believe that this hip joint pain is chronic. Also, because I only noticed it while exercising, this tells me the pain is only felt when activity forces my leg to bend causing hip joint pain. I am 26 years old, and I can't remember any trauma that may have occurred to cause this pain. I am about 5'10, and I used to weigh close to 300, but now I am close to 200. Would this weight have any impact on why I am having this hip joint pain? Also, I used to have high blood sugar issues (diabetes) because of my weight, but this has also come down as well to regular levels. This pain is felt with motion, I have tried to stretch to perhaps increase the range of motion, but I think this has just caused me to feel more pain. Can anyone please offer insight into this problem? Unfortunately, I am a hypochondriac, and I imagine the worst case scenario which is cancer. However, this pain has not increased or gotten worse since 2007, and I would think that bone cancer would progress. Insight would be highly appreciated

have you gone to a doctor? It is probably just muscle strain, but the ONLY way you are going to get a definite diagnosis (muscle strain, related to weight, cancer, etc. etc.) is to go to a doctor. No one here can tell you what it is.

What do you think? Answer below! Get the facts on causes of hip pain , and learn about medications used for treatment of hip pain.

  1. You may have SI Joint Dysfunction, which is the medical term for pain in the SI joint. The SI (sacroiliac) joints are where your "tailbone" joins with your hips. SI joint pain can be especially bad when walking up stairs or getting in & out of the car. Because there are two SI joints (left and right), SI joint pain is often localized on the right or left side of your lower back, often radiating into your hip, buttock, groin, or down to the knee. The SI joint area is also one of the main nerve centers of the body. Inflammation of the SI joints can affect the sciatic nerve that runs in front of the SI joint, so SI joint dysfunction is often misdiagnosed as sciatica (a stabbing nerve pain in the buttocks and radiating down the leg).

SI Joint Dysfunction can be difficult to diagnose, even with x-rays & MRI. Your doctor will likely just prescribe painkillers, but that is not a long term solution. Chiropractic and massage sometimes help, but these are temporary fixes, and they can become expensive and time consuming without ever solving the underlying problem.

Fortunately, you can strengthen & stabilize your SI joints with some simple Pilates-based movements. Check out the website below for more information. Good luck!
