Will a 4" "memory foam" mattress topper help with hip pain?I sleep on my side and the outside of my hips hurt after a while. I can only sleep for about two hours at a time before I need to turn over. Has anyone had similar experience in this regard and did a "topper" help you? Thanks.

Sounds like my problems when I was pregnant. I eventually ended up sleeping on a plain old blow up camping air mattress. It was a God send for me!

It could help a lot, but you may want to look into a more firm mattress. Also, try sleeping with a doubled over pillow in between your knees, that will reduce the pain as well.

I have bursitis in my left hip, which kind of surprised my doctor because this is usually seen in older people who are overweight and I'm 34 and a bit on the thin side. He asked what kind of mattress I have, since I, too, tend to sleep on my side - my left side, unfortunately. When I told him it's a firm mattress, he suggested we get some kind of topper for the bed. We ended up getting a down feather filled topper at a great price - $ 150 marked down from $ 300 on overstock.com, and it's absolutely FANTASTIC! It's not so thick that we had to buy deep pocket sheets, and it doesn't make the bed overly soft, either. We bought this just after Christmas, and my hip hasn't hurt since which is great, because my doctor had said relief would probably only come from a cortisone shot. I would wager that a foam topper would be just as effective and a benefit of those is that they're much easier to clean than down.
