Can having an ovarian cyst cause pain in other locations in my abdomen?I have a ovarian cyst on my left ovary.. The reason why they found this is because they gave me and ultrasound because I was having pain on the right in between my belly button and hip. Could the cyst be causing this pain or are they unrelated?

Hi Nikki
Pain is a funny thing, it can move around or be displaced. So my guess is that its related ot the cyst. It is common for these pains to radiate to your back, or even down your thighs.
It should go away on its own with time, but very occassionally they rupture. If you experience severe pain, vomiting or fever/dizziness than seek medical help immediately.

Thats a good question for your doctor. But when I had my ovarian cyst I was in pain all over my abdomen. At first I thought I had gas...but it turned out I had an ovarian cyst grow to the size of a grapefruit. B/c I was prego at the time, the prego hormone was feeding it. Turned out the cyst was so large that it cause my fallopian tube (left side) to twist and cut off blood supply to my ovary. So I was in mega pain due to a dead ovary!!! I was also 11 1/2 weeks pregnant. The docs took out the benign cyst and ovary. All went well and even my pregnancy. I had a healthy baby girl :D
Been functioning on one ovary ever since. And u know what? That ovary worked so well that five months after I gave birth, I got pregnant again!!! LOL!! Then had another baby almost 3 yrs. later :D
Life kinda throws us all kinds of curve balls, huh.
But, yah, u should ask your doctor about the location of the pain your experiencing.
Sorry I gabbed away!

Everyone experiences illness differently. It is fairly common with ovarian cysts to have pain in areas other than the specific site. My guess would be the pain is related, however if you are concerned you should go back and see your doctor.
