What to buy hip replacement patient for christmas?

How about a Wii? He'll be able to play a good number of the games sitting, as long as he takes it easy.If he likes movies you could get him a subscription to Netflix. If he likes to read you could get him a Kindle. Or just more books. Or volunteer to make library runs for him.
BTW, smoking is not a good thing for recovering hip replacement patients. Bone doesn't heal as fast in smokers. So if he gets a bone in-growth prosthesis that's important. And it also isn't a good idea going into surgery, esp. if he has general anesthesia. I've had my hips replaced and after I did my homework reading about the surgery, the anesthesia and the risks of being a smoker under anesthesia I quit 6 weeks before surgery. And have never started up again.
