Hip Mri results - please explain?Hi - I have been having back and hip pain for almost a year. All of the attention was given to teh back until my Dr. asked for me to have a Hip MRI. Below are the findings. Can you let me know if you feel this is a serious injury and of so, do you think it requires surgery?
1. Tear of the entire superior labrum extending anterior to posterior with small associated paralabral cyst formation and focal detachment of the anterior/superior labrum.
2. Mild trochanteric bursitis (small amount of edema and inflammtory change).
3. Mild iliopsoas bursitis (small amount of fluid with the bursa).

Your doctor should have told you what those mean. Ask your doctor or find one who will!

You've torn the cartilage that helps keep your hip in the socket, and that reduces friction in your hip. Your doctor can tell you how serious your case is, and what the treatment is. Items number 2 and 3 are probably due to item number 1...
