hip/groin pain when running?

hip/groin pain when running?Does anyone know this pain or how to help it? I have it only on one side, it feels like a tiny muscle or tendon, where my leg joints my hip, near the front/groin area. The pain is less and takes longer to start if I take shorter steps when I run. It's slowly getting better (a muscle getting stronger?), I first felt it after 5 minutes of running, now I don't notice it until around 20 minutes. I also notice it when doing exercises laying on my back, like lifting up the leg for a pilates exercise. Anyone know the name of this pain?? I know, it's hard to say what it is. I've looked in running books for it, but no luck, and I'll be asking a doctor about it soon.

Hey, you might want to get a MRI done of your hip. I had a contrast done of my hip when i was a freshman in college, because i was experiencing some of the same things you have mentioned. Turned out i had a labral tear. This is somewhat common esp for runners who change their intensity in training.

For me, it was usually a dull kind of ache then turned into pain. Sometimes vice versa. There are very simple tests that can be done to figure out if this is your problem. It's treatable, so dont stress over it, but it is a pain in the butt!! good luck
